Taiwanese style milk tea has become very popular, with tapioca/boba tea placed popping up everywhere. It’s usually made with a brewed black or red tea which is then mixed either with sugar and a creamer, or with condensed milk. You can also do other types of tea like green tea, jasmine tea, but black/red tea is the most popular kind used for milk teas.
I had a can of milk tea that I had purchased and thought I’d experiment with making ice cream with the milk tea. The color was very light, but I think that had more to do with the light color of the can milk tea. Fresh made milk tea is usually darker in color.
The ice cream was creamy and had a nice milk tea flavor. Yum! Next time I’ll use a fresh batch of milk tea to make this though.
1 cup of milk tea
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup heavy cream
1. Mix all ingredients into a bowl. Whisk for about one minute with a hand whisk
2. Pour ingredients into your ice cream maker and follow manufacturer’s instructions.
3. You can serve immediately, or freeze a few hours for a harder ice cream.
