Rice Krispies Heart Treats

I don’t know what it is about rice krispies treats that have made them stand the test of time. I used to love them as a kid and I love them equally as much as an adult. The recipe is so ridiculously easy, and yet it creates such a delicious treat. Whoever came up with the recipe for Kelloggs’ is a genius.

I prefer making homemade rice krispies treats rather than getting the store made ones. For one thing the store made ones are kind of pricey for such an easy to make treat. For another, I hate how cloyingly sweet the store ones and the artificial taste.

Usually I just cut my rice krispies treats into squares but I thought it’d be more fun to make them into hearts. I spread them in a baking pan as usual and once they had cooled and set, I used a heart shape cookie cutter to cut out heart shaped ones.

Kelloggs’ rice krispies treats (recipe can be found on the box)

Ingredients
6 cups of rice krispies
3 tablespoons of butter
1 bag of regular marshmallows (about 40)

Directions

1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

2. Add the rice krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.

3. Press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Let it cool completely. Cut into squares or use cookie cutters to make shapes.
